Everything runs in your browser. What you type is not uploaded or saved. These styles are Unicode symbols, so how they look depends on the device and app you paste into.
Many kinds of star
Unicode has far more stars than the usual ★ and ☆. The first group gathers five-point stars: solid, outline, circled and shadowed. The second group has pointed and burst shapes with four, six, eight or more tips. The third group holds the small star-like marks that are called asterisks and are handy as bullets.
Each symbol shows its official Unicode name when you point at it, so you can tell a black star from a heavy outlined one.
Rating rows and bullets
A row of ★ and ☆ is an easy rating line. Add the stars to your tray in the order you want, then copy the row in one go. For a list, a small star such as ✦ or ✧ works as a bullet at the start of each line.
The star emoji at the end of the page are color pictures on phones. They are good for emphasis but will not match your text color.
Notes on fonts
Stars are drawn by whichever font a device uses, so the points can be sharper, rounder or larger on another screen. If a star must look the same everywhere, use an image instead of a text symbol.
Common questions
What is the difference between ★ and ☆?
★ is the black star, which is drawn solid. ☆ is the white star, which is drawn as an outline.
Which star is best for a bullet list?
The small pointed stars such as ✦ and ✧ are light enough for a list. Try a few in your app, since sizes differ between fonts.
Why does ⭐ look different from ★?
⭐ is an emoji, so phones draw it as a yellow picture. ★ is a text character and takes your text color.
Do these work in a username?
Some services allow them and some strip them. Test with a short name before you commit to one.
