These are Unicode symbols that look like fonts, not real fonts. Screen readers may read them one symbol at a time or skip them, so avoid them for anything important. Some apps, forms and games strip or replace them. Letters that a style has no version of stay plain.

Convert back to normal text

Paste text written in any of these styles. Letters and digits become plain A–Z and 0–9. Frames and decorative symbols you added stay as they are.

Everything runs in your browser. What you type is not uploaded or saved. These styles are Unicode symbols, so how they look depends on the device and app you paste into.

Markdown is not the same as a font

Discord has its own formatting called markdown. According to Discord’s help article, you wrap text in *italics* or _italics_, **bold**, __underline__ and ~~strikethrough~~, and ***bold italics*** combines two. Discord turns those marks into formatting inside your message, and the text stays ordinary text.

The cards on this page work differently. They replace each letter with another Unicode character, so they also work where markdown does not, such as a nickname or a channel name, but they are not ordinary letters anymore.

Which one to use

In a normal message, markdown is usually the better choice: it is faster, easier to read aloud and easy to search. Use Unicode styles for places that take only text, such as a nickname, a server description or a status line, and check how the result looks on both desktop and phone. Moderators and servers can set their own rules for names, so a styled nickname may be changed or blocked.

  • *italics* or _italics_ for italics.
  • **bold** for bold.
  • __underline__ for underline.
  • ~~strikethrough~~ for strikethrough.

Common questions

Do I need a font changer to bold text on Discord?

No. Put two asterisks on each side, like **this**. A font changer is for places where markdown does not work.

Why does my styled Discord name look strange?

Each device draws these Unicode characters with its own font, so spacing and shapes vary. Some characters may appear as boxes.

Is this affiliated with Discord?

No. It is an independent tool, and the markdown notes come from Discord’s public help article.
